Cheap movie tickets are easy to obtain, IF you know where to find them. And, if you are a movie addict like me, it makes
good sense. Okay, I admit it. I’m a movie junkie. I just LOVE to go to the movies. If I could see 2-3 in one day, I would—if no one saw me, of course! But, in New York City, at $11.50 - $12.50 a pop, the prices have me reeling (get the pun?)!!! Throw in popcorn and a soda, and the prices are just plain ridiculous!
But, don’t despair, I’ve done the work for you. Chances are very strong that you are carrying a card in your wallet that entitles you to fantastic discounts. You'll probably surprise yourself! But, there are MANY ways to get cheap movie tickets and, even free movie tickets! Yup, it’s true. Here’s the scoop!
BUY CHEAP MOVIE TICKETS FROM:AMC Theaters
AMC theaters offer $6 tickets to any movie before noon, weekends included. Why not take in a movie, followed by a great lunch? Don't forget to join the Stubs Club which rewards you for frequent visits! Present your AMC Stubs card at every purchase (tickets and concession stands) and you'll get $10 Stubs Rewards for every $100 you spend, popcorn and fountain drinks upgraded to the next size for free anytime, free online ticketing on movietickets.com and fandango.com. Although there is a $12 annual fee (we got ours for $6 during a 'special'), you'll easily get your money back in a visit! This is a great way to enhance your opportunities for cheap movie tickets.
Automobile Club of America
If you are a member of AAA you can save up to 40% off regular box-office prices at participating theaters such as Cleaview Cinemas, AMC Theatres, National Amusements, and Regal Entertainment. Purchase tickets online or at one of their branch offices. The only drawback is that these tickets cannot be used for the first two weeks of a first-run movie.
AFL-CIO Members: Union Plus Movie Ticket Discounts
AFL-CIO members can take their family and friends to the movies by using the Union Plus Entertainment Discounts from Working Advantage. Save up to 40% and avoid standing in long lines at the movies by ordering your tickets online. Choose from many local movie theaters throughout the United States including AMC and Regal.

Buy 5 movie tickets for $37.50 (Just $7.50 per ticket) for use at any Regal, United Artists, and Edwards Theatres. Tickets are good for any day, any show. Click on the link above to purchase.
Discount Movie Passes
Buy groups of tickets, from 5, to as many as 50, for AMC Theaters. Final cost of each ticket is $7.00. There is a $5.99 handling charge.
Early Shows
The quickest way to score cheap movies tickets is to attend before 5:00 PM. Most theaters sell discounted tickets for all afternoon shows and the first show on Saturdays.
Entertainment Book
If you purchase the New York City version of the Entertainment book, you’ll receive dozens of movie coupons for popular movie theaters. You can buy cheap movie tickets for as little as $5 or $6 with their movie ticket coupons. When you buy two tickets, you get a third free! Here are the prices:

The Kew Gardens Cinema

Bryant Park Summer Film Festival
This fantastic film festival is operational from June through August, typically between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM on Mondays. You’ll see classics like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Sting, Breaking Away, Dog Day Afternoon, and more! The lawn opens at 5:00 pm for blankets and picnicking. This festival has become very popular so get there EARLY! Bring along a wonderful picnic and you'll have an evening of splendor!

During July and August, enjoy the free adult River Flicks program on Wednesdays at Pier 54, and the free Children’s program on Fridays, at Pier 46. This year’s adult film schedule included such classics as Tropic of Thunder, Sex and the City: The Movie, Vicky Christina Barcelona, and The Dark Knight. The Children’s schedule included Ghostbusters, Kung Fu Panda, The Wizard of Oz, and Madagascar: Escape to Africa! Even the popcorn is free!
FREE Intrepid Summer Movie Series

Visit the Intrepid to celebrate some of our favorite heroes from the movies during the annual Intrepid Summer Movie Series. Enjoy a FREE feature film under the stars directly on the Intrepid's flight deck held from late May through late August! Bring your lawn chairs, picnic baskets and blankets. Guests are encouraged to bring their own food, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages! Doors open at 7:30PM, film begins at sunset, weather permitting. Space is limited.
Sony Wonder Lab Free Saturday Movies
Visit on Saturday afternoons at 2 pm for a FREE afternoon feature film in their fantastic 73-seat High Definition Theater! Reservations can be made beginning on the Monday of the week when a screening is scheduled by calling the Events RSVP Line at (212) 833-7858. Remaining tickets will be distributed 30 minutes prior to the start of the screening on a first-come, first-serves basis. Admission will be closed to ticket holders 15 minutes after the screening. Children under 18 will not be admitted unless accompanied by an adult.
With all these opportunities to purchase cheap movie tickets, there is no reason not to enjoy the cinema several times a week.
