Last year we attended many basketball games, the circus, a comedy club, a cabaret performance, and several Broadway and off-Broadway shows. Even if you are visiting for one week, it pays to join. Check daily and continually; but usually after 1:00 pm. If you find what you want, buy it immediately because events can sell out within minutes. You will have a wider selection of off-Broadway theater for most of the time, but items pop up all the time!

Tickets are available either when the box office opens or a few hours before the show begins. Expect to pay about $20-25 per ticket. I recommend calling the box office in advance.

Theater Development Fund Pay a $30 annual fee and log on to a vast array of great Broadway, off-Broadway, off-off-Broadway, concerts, dance recitals, etc. The Catch? You must be a full-time student, full-time teacher, union member, retiree, civil service employee, staff member of a not-for-profit organization, performing arts professional, or a member of the armed forces or clergy. Broadway shows are about $30, depending on the show and there is usually a good selection. This is well worth the investment. I've been a member for years and have seen a lot of top hits with this discount group.

Ticketmaster You can use Ticketmaster to purchase theater tickets to just about any show, but in particular, when you have obtained coupons for discounts. Shakespeare in the Park Delacorte Theater in Center Park Enter at Central Park West and 81 Street This is perhaps the most famous and well known of NYC's Summer Theater. Expect to see great acting by the likes of Al Pacino and others. Tickets are free, limited to 2 per person, and may be picked up only on the day of the performance after 1:00 pm at the Delacorte Theater.
