NYC Food Trucks: Low-Cost Gourmet Treats
NYC food trucks sell a lot more than hot dogs these days. Great food is not only found in restaurants anymore! Actually, you don’t have to travel any further than the curb to buy first-rate gourmet food; expect to find everything from cupcakes to steak. Yes, the street vendor explosion is here…and because it has to do with high quality food--I couldn’t be happier. It's a virtual caravan of food!
Enjoying the fruits of food trucks is another great way to sample New York City’s finest food—-at a very low price. You won't believe the top notch food that you'll find. How about Crème Brulee, prepared by a former Le Cirque pastry chef? It's absolutely true.
So, go ahead. Plan to sample at least one or two of these great treats in the very near future. Be sure to check your favorite food trucks website to confirm their daily location as it can change and some food trucks are seasonal. Bon appétit!

THE BEST NYC STREET VENDORS!CALEXICO CARNE ASADA CART These 3 California brothers won the 2008 Vendy Awards for their carne asada tacos, chipotle pulled pork, and other Mexican-inspired food. (Any unsold treats are donated to City Harvest to feed the less fortunate.) Their sumptuous red velvet and Oreo crumb cupcakes are probably its most popular treat. Cupcake Stop has a unique array of tastes, flavors and visually-appealing cakes. Try the triple chocolate cupcakes, or the psychedelic tie dye, or how about the Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl? Does life get any better than this? I don’t think so. For a mere $1.00 - $2.25, nirvana can be yours. DAISY MAY’S BBQ CART Texas-style spicy chili made with chunks of chuck meat served with a flour tortilla and special hot sauce. About $6. They also offer pulled pork, beef brisket and chicken sandwiches. These food trucks are headed by a chef trained by the famed Daniel Boulud, so this is serious stuff. GO BURGER Look for GO Burger’s white, red and brown truck at major street fairs beginning mid-April and throughout the summer. Who are they? It’s BLT restaurant’s "restaurant on wheels." You’ll enjoy 100% Certified Black Angus beef burgers (a combination of sirloin, short rib, chuck and brisket), cheese burgers, superior hot dogs (100% American Kobe Beef, smoked using authentic hardwoods combined with signature blends of spices), fries, salads, sweets, shakes and more. ED'S LOBSTER CART Ed McFarland serves a $27 lobster roll (also available with half the meat at $15) and a sautéed soft-shell crab on ciabatta bread, with tartar sauce, lettuce, tomato, and red onion. Sandwiches start at $6 such as a tuna salad and a grilled shrimp po’ boy. I'll admit that it's a splurge and that I haven't been there yet. LA CENSE BEEF BURGER TRUCK Enjoy a Montana ranch, complete with blue skies and breathtaking mountains when you visit this truck! This is the scene that is depicted on its attractive food trucks. You’ll find black Angus grass-fed beef burgers topped with caramelized onions, and if you like, cheese. THE BIG GAY ICE CREAM TRUCK Although the truck isn’t fancy, the quality of its products more than makes up for it. Interestingly enough, Doug Quint, the truck owner, is an accomplished bassoonist. The ice cream and premium toppings are absolutely delicious. The most popular cone is vanilla ice cream with dulce de leche and crushed Nilla wafers. PIZZA TRUCK I included this truck because they make and sell pizza for just $1 a slice! As their slogan goes, "Why pay more?" PAPA PERRON'S RICE BALLS John Paul Perrone sells rice balls, or arancini di riso in Italian, a wonderful Sicilian specialty that he learned to prepare from his grandmother. These golden orbs, stuffed with meatballs, three cheeses, or spinach and cheese, are creamy in the middle, crispy on the outside. (These are a real specialty in Italy.
