Intrepid Museum

What is the Intrepid Museum?

The Intrepid Museum, an sea, air, and space museum is housed in The Intrepid, a World War II and Vietnam aircraft carrier. It has a 900 ft flight deck which showcases old and new warplanes and the Air France Concorde. It’s an absolutely astounding sight!

What Will You See?

How about the only publicly-displayed submarine with guided missiles, the Growler! The secret A-12 Blackbird spy plane! 30 aircraft including 2 of the fastest in the world! The supersonic Concorde plane! A tribute to the 9-11 victims. And starting July 19, 2012, you'll see the Space Shuttle Enterprise. Well, you'll just have to go and discover the rest of the surprises it has in store for you. Believe me, you won't be disappointed.

It returned to NYC about a year ago after a long hiatus and a multi-million dollar face lift. It was well worth the wait!

Where is the Intrepid Museum?

It is located at Pier 86, which is on 46th Street at 12th Avenue.

I Recommend

1-The three flight-zone simulators! Buy tickets for all 3, if you dare, and receive a discount!

2-Arrive early. The crowds can get large, especially in the summer. Visit the submarine first. They only allow a certain number of people in at a time, so sometimes there is a line. We arrived first thing in the morning and didn't have to wait at all

3-If you buy your tickets online, discount coupons cannot be applied. So, take a walk over and buy them in advance. Tickets are "timed" which means you buy them for a day and a specific entrance time.

4-Rent the audio-tour. You'll learn alot more while you hear the pilots' and crew members' stories in their own words. The audio-tours are available in multiple languages or you can take a guided tour wth a tourguide.

5-Check the Public Events Calendar to see if there is something special planned for your visit date. Or, plan your visit to coincide with a special event.
