Newark Liberty Airport is located in the city of Newark, in the state of New

Jersey, just about 15 miles south west of New York City. It is the tenth busiest airport in the United States and the nation's fifth busiest international air gateway. Comprised of 3 terminals, it offers nonstop and connecting flights around the country and the world. You can often secure cheaper flights into this airport so it might be a good fit for you.

You'll find a huge array of shops, restaurants and currency exchanges including Dick Clark's American Bandstand Restaurant, Gallagher's Steakhouse, a Massage Bar, McDonalds, and, of course, Starbucks Coffee. A Marriott hotel is located right on the premises of Newark Liberty International Airport (Tel: 1-973-623-0006) and offers spa facilities.

There are many ways to travel from Newark Liberty Airport to Manhattan. Don’t worry, I’ve done the work for you.

Check out all options below, listed beginning with least expensive to more expensive. Save money and use it for your vacation. You won’t be sorry!

New Jersey Transit Bus (Cheapest Option):

The cheapest option is to take New Jersey Transit bus #62, which runs from in front of the airport terminals to Newark Penn Station (one-way fare $1.60; exact change only; 25 minutes). From there, you may take a PATH subway train ($2.25) either to World Trade Center station in lower Manhattan (25 minutes), or, to Journal Square, where you can transfer to the Journal Square-33rd Street train across the platform, which runs to the following stops along 6th Avenue: Christopher St in Greenwich Village, 9th Street, 14th Street 23rd Street, and 33rd Street. The ride will take approximately 90 minutes including waiting times.

Newark Airport Liberty Express

offers bus service to Port Authority Bus Terminal, Grand Central Station and Bryant Park every 15 minutes during the day, 365 days a year (departures every 30 minutes before 6:45 AM and after 11:15 PM)! Depending on which stop you are going to, it will take you about 40 – 50 minutes.Call 908-354-3330 or log on to

 for more information.

Children: Kids under 5 ride free.

Children, Ages 5-11: $5 one way.

Students: Students age 12 - 16 pay only $10 one way.

Seniors and customers with disabilities: Newark Airport Express offers a 50% discount on a one-way adult ticket for seniors (62 years and older) and customers with disabilities. These passengers must show a valid NJ Transit Reduced Fare ID or official proof of age or disability. Discounted tickets can be purchased from ticket counters.

A simple, easy way to get to, from, and around Newark Liberty Airport. Essentially, it is a monorail that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year providing connections to NJ Transit (the train),to New York City, and to the New Jersey Path Train (which is like a subway) that will transport you to lower Manhattan and West 33rd street. (It is a connecting train only—it does not leave the airport.) The $5.50 usage fee is included in the cost of your NJ Path or NJ Transit ticket. Additionally, AirTrain also connects passengers to airline terminals, rental car facilities, hotel shuttles and parking lots for free. Log on to for more information.

New Jersey Transit
Take New Jersey Transit Trains from Newark Liberty Airport to Pennsylvania Station in New York City, which is located at West 34th Street. This is the only stop in Manhattan. If you are staying in lower Manhattan, the New Jersey Path train will stop closer to your destination. Click here for schedule and fare information.Fares are $13.00 for adults, $9 for children. Children (ages 5-11) save at least 50 percent at all times. In addition, up to three kids 4 and under can ride free with a passenger paying any valid fare.On weekends and holidays, up to two kids (ages 5-11) can ride free with a passenger paying any valid fare. In effect from 7 p.m. Friday (or the day before a holiday) until 6 a.m. Monday (or the day after a holiday).

New Jersey Path Train
Use the New Jersey Path Train from Newark Liberty Airport when traveling to lower Manhattan or West 33rd Street. How? Simply hop on the Airtrain, take it to Newark Penn Station (this is different from New York Penn Station) and change for the Path Train to lower Manhattan or West 33rd Street. Call (800)772-2222 or log on to for more information.

Go Airlink Shuttle provides 24/7 convenient, economical, door-to-door share-ride van service each-way between Newark Liberty Airport and hotels in Manhattan.

RATES: vary from $17 to $30 per person depending on the day and time. Children under 3 are free. The reason that I recommend this van service is because they provide door-to-door service.

Available 24 hours a day at taxi stands. Ride takes about 45-50 minutes depending on traffic, and costs roughly $50-$60 + tolls and gratuity. If you prefer to take a taxi because you feel unsure of yourself, try to link up with someone at the taxi stand, and share a ride. You’ll save a lot.

Should you decide to drive and park, understand that there are more than 17,000 public parking spaces at Newark Liberty Airport. Three short-term car parks (Lots A, B and C) are located in front of each terminal. Daily parking is available in car parks P1, P3 and the multi-story P4 (P2 and part of P3 are reserved for hire cars), which are connected to the terminals by AirTrain Newark. Free Newark Liberty Airport shuttle buses transport passengers to/from the economy parking lot, P6. Valet parking is available.

In general, cars are a true hindrance in Manhattan. Traffic can be difficult and you’ll always have consider parking issues. I do not recommend them unless you must. However, if you want to rent a car from Newark Liberty Airport, you have many choices.

If you have an early morning flight and need a hotel nearby, no worries, there is a vast array from which to choose. I recommend staying right at Newark Liberty Airport. Firstly, you are close and you won't have to ride far (more time to sleep in) to make your flight, and finally, Newark is NOT a nice city. You do NOT want to walk around this city--it is dangerous.

So, here is a list of properties at and near the airport. I have not stayed at all these properties, but again recommend the ones at the airport. In particular, I've always found that Marriott offers consistent quality throughout their properties. In particular, I have stayed at the Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel and it's provides very nice accommodations!
